Extreme heat is not a future threat. It is here, and it is becoming more dangerous.
In every region of the world, heat is claiming lives on a growing scale, day after day. It is also putting an enormous share of the global workforce at risk. On 31 July 2026, in the face of scorching heat domes and raging wildfires, the Secretary-General renewed his appeal for action in four areas: Protect people before heat becomes deadlier. Make work safer. Build and retrofit for the heat that is coming. Stop fuelling the crisis.
