To mark Human Rights Day on 10 December, Cin¨¦-ONU Vienna, and for the first time, Cin¨¦-ONU Budapest organized virtual screenings of the documentary ¡°Parlika¡±. This documentary explores women¡¯s rights in Afghanistan and tells the story of Suraya Parlika, an Afghan women¡¯s rights activist.
Vienna¡¯s online screening on 6 December was organized by the United Nations Information Service (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵIS) Vienna with the Permanent Mission of Slovakia to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ (Vienna). The Slovak Ambassador, Radomir Bohac, delivered opening remarks before the screening.
The screening was followed by a panel discussion with the director, Sahraa Karimi, who fled Afghanistan in August 2021; film producer and acting president of the Slovak Television Academy, Wanda Adamik Hrycova, who helped Karimi escape; and journalist and author Petra Ramsauer. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵIS Vienna Director Martin Nesirky moderated the discussion on the importance of women¡¯s rights in Afghanistan.
The Cin¨¦-ONU Budapest screening took place on the 10 December. Organized by Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵIS Vienna and the International Diplomatic Student Association (IDSA), the screening was the first ever by Cin¨¦-ONU Budapest. The Budapest screening included a panel discussion with P¨¦ter Marton, associate professor at Corvinus University, Budapest, and M¨¢t¨¦ Szalai, coordinator of the Middle Eastern and North African Research Programme at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and senior lecturer at Corvinus University.
