Following the successful opening of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Postal Administration (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵPA) in New York in 1951, the second branch of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵPA opened at the Palais des Nations in Geneva in 1969.?
An agreement between the United Nations and the Swiss Postal Telephone and Telegraph Enterprise in 1968 enabled the opening of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵPA Geneva office. The first United Nations stamps in Swiss francs were issued on 4 October 1969 at the Palais des Nations.
Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Postal Administration (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵPA) is issuing a new special event sheet on 24 October 2024 to commemorate the fifty-fifth anniversary of its Geneva post office.
The sheet of 10 stamps in the denomination of CHF 1,20 features various images and artwork of the Geneva headquarters complex. The tabs to the right of the stamps feature an illustration of architectural elements from the Geneva headquarters.
The background of the sheet features the Human Rights and Alliance of Civilizations Room, one of the largest conference rooms in the Palace of Nations. It was completely renovated as part of a Spanish donation to the United Nations.
The main feature is a ceiling sculpture by?Miquel Barcel¨®. It was inaugurated on 18 November 2008, by the United Nations Secretary-General and the King and Queen of Spain.
