12 July 2023 - Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Messenger of Peace Malala Yousafzai met with students in Abuja and Borno State, Nigeria, to champion girls¡¯ right to education alongside Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed. Marking Malala¡¯s 26th birthday and a decade since her landmark ¡°Malala Day¡± speech at the United Nations, she warned that more than 120 million girls worldwide remain out of school. ¡°Quality education is not a dream, but a fundamental human right,¡± Mohammed said, praising Malala¡¯s global advocacy.
Reflecting on her work through the Malala Fund, Malala urged leaders to match girls¡¯ determination with concrete investment and accountability. She highlighted setbacks driven by conflict, climate change, the pandemic, and condemned the ongoing ban on girls¡¯ education in Afghanistan. ¡°Change can begin with just one person,¡± she said, calling for united action to ensure 12 years of quality education for every child.
