Eighth Plenary Meeting of the High-level Group on the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework

At its tenth session, the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (Ģ��Ƶ-GGIM) noted the global significance of the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (IGIF), which serves as a key umbrella for the many activities under the purview of the Committee of Experts, including the regional committees and thematic groups of Ģ��Ƶ-GGIM, which could be applied to any country to guide transformational change, and which would be a living and usable document to be reviewed and refined through an iterative process, on the basis of the practical implementation experiences of Member States.

In making decision 10/103, at its tenth session, the Committee of Experts endorsed the establishment of a dedicated high-level group of experts, with balanced geographical representation and expertise, as a mechanism to provide strategic leadership, coordination and oversight in order to ensure the sustained success of the IGIF, and to mobilize the resources necessary to maintain the momentum and refinement of the IGIF as a continuously evolving process.

At its Seventh Plenary Meeting, held on 10�C11 February 2026 in Vienna, Austria, the HLG-IGIF concluded the work of its three original work groups (Communications; Capacity Development; Sustainable Funding), received regional and Member State progress updates, and endorsed a new HLG-IGIF Strategic Plan 2026. The Group further agreed to transition to organize its work around four themes on Communications; Capacity Development and Knowledge Sharing; Implementation and Governance; and Continuous Improvement and Monitoring of the Ģ��Ƶ-IGIF.

The Eighth Plenary Meeting is convened as a side event of the Sixteenth Session of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management. The meeting will provide an opportunity for the High-level Group to review global progress in implementing the United Nations Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (Ģ��Ƶ-IGIF), informed by the findings of the 2026 global implementation survey conducted by the Ģ��Ƶ Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Centre (Ģ��Ƶ-GGKIC). The meeting will also hear from a selected number of Member States on their implementation experiences and discuss the High-level Group's priorities and programme of work for the forthcoming intersessional period, building on the strategic priorities it has already agreed.
