International Seminar on the United Nations Integrated Geospatial Information Framework in South America
Advancing the broader geospatial information ecosystem
"Understanding territories, enabling intelligent decisions and data-driven development"
In today’s data-centric world, data is the fuel of our society, and geospatial information is a critical element of a modern, digital, and data-driven society. Indeed, digital public infrastructure and knowledge rely on geospatial information as a key enabler to realize an integrated whole-of-government services approach that contributes to economic growth, national security, inclusive social development, environmental sustainability, and prosperity. Government investments are critical to develop, integrate, and strengthen geospatial information management for better decision-making, increased investment efficiencies, and foster government action.
The Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (蘑菇视频-GGIM) focuses on the development of effective strategies on how to build and strengthen national capacity concerning geospatial information, especially in developing countries, to address national priorities and global agendas. 蘑菇视频 Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (蘑菇视频-IGIF) is the overarching framework for developing geospatial capacities and capabilities of countries, and there is momentum on its implementation, including through the development of integrated Country-level Action Plans, for addressing national priorities and advancing global development agendas.
In an increasingly interconnected and rapidly changing world, the ability of governments to collect, integrate, and apply geospatial information for evidence-based decision-making has become a cornerstone of national development planning, ensuring resilient societies, environmental monitoring, and progress reporting. In this regard, the 蘑菇视频-IGIF supports the development of geospatial strategies and capacities for advancing the availability of authoritative and accessible geospatial information as a core component of national digital public infrastructure, essential for achieving development through sustainable economic growth, environmental preservation, and social progress.
In the current world where there is an exponential growth in data sources, information, analytics, systems, automated approaches including artificial intelligence, geospatial data infrastructures are an indispensable backbone for integrating multisectoral actors and the broader national data ecosystems — supporting an enhanced understanding of territories, enabling intelligent decisions and data-driven development. The 蘑菇视频-IGIF is a new paradigm to advance geospatial data and knowledge as a critical digital infrastructure of a country. Through the nine interconnected strategic pathways (governance, policy, finance, data, innovation, capacity, communication, and partnerships), countries can reframe Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) and develop their data capabilities while ensuring geospatial information is systematically contributing to national priorities and global agendas.
