Chinese pianist Lang Lang\u00a0and his mother Xiulan Zhou met with\u00a0Mogens Lykketoft, President of the\u00a0Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly, on Saturday for a brief chat\u00a0during\u00a0the second day of the Sustainable Development Summit.<\/p>\n
They discussed Lang Lang’s desire to support the United Nations on implementing the Sustainable Development Goals and to help promote education globally.<\/p>\n
After watching the Chinese President’s speech in the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly, Lang Lang visited the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Social Media team to take a Twitter mirror and show his support for the SDGs.<\/p>\n
In 2013 Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon designated Lang Lang, a\u00a0world-renowned concert\u00a0pianist, \u00a0as a United Nations Messenger of Peace with the words “Music has the power to open hearts and minds.”<\/p>\n
“Lang Lang connects people, not only through his music, but also through his passion to build a better world through education,” he said.<\/p>\n
Lang Lang, a child prodigy, began playing the piano at three years old. He has worked with many of the greatest orchestras, performing at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics and playing for leaders worldwide. Lang Lang is also a Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵICEF Goodwill Ambassador Alumni.<\/p>\n
With millions of children still out of school, Lang Lang has said he wants to contribute to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals:\u00a0“Education is key, key to development. Our youth are the leaders of tomorrow. We must give them the necessary tools to reach their goals in life and make their dreams come true.”<\/p>\n
