{"id":25749,"date":"2015-10-23T19:00:36","date_gmt":"2015-10-23T23:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/70\/?p=25749"},"modified":"2015-10-26T17:15:26","modified_gmt":"2015-10-26T21:15:26","slug":"concert-commemorating-70th-anniversary-of-the-united-nations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/70\/2015\/10\/23\/concert-commemorating-70th-anniversary-of-the-united-nations\/","title":{"rendered":"Concert commemorating 70th Anniversary of the United Nations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\">[wooslider slider_type=&#8221;attachments&#8221; limit=&#8221;6&#8243; thumbnails=&#8221;default&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Statement by Mr. Mogens Lykketoft, \u00a0<\/strong><strong>President of the 70<sup>th<\/sup> session of the General Assembly at the\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Concert commemorating <\/strong><strong>the 70<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary of the United Nations<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>23 October 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Mr Secretary General, Excellencies, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, 70 years ago tomorrow, this Organisation was born and it is my great pleasure to be here at the centre of this anniversary celebration.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">That the United Nations still exists is an incredible achievement in itself; that it has made great strides in advancing global peace, justice, human rights and social progress is something that we should all be proud of. We should be proud also of all those who have contributed to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ\u2019s successes and we should remember those Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">It is evident that we still have a long distance to travel before the vision of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Charter becomes a reality. Together, we must work to end the senseless conflicts and violence that disrupt development, displace millions and destroy hundreds of thousands of lives. We must meet our commitments to uphold and realise the inalienable human rights of all without discrimination and to advance gender equality.
