{"id":36981,"date":"2015-12-23T22:48:03","date_gmt":"2015-12-24T03:48:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/70\/?p=36981"},"modified":"2015-12-24T05:03:49","modified_gmt":"2015-12-24T10:03:49","slug":"general-assembly-adopts-un-budget-for-2016-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/70\/2015\/12\/23\/general-assembly-adopts-un-budget-for-2016-17\/","title":{"rendered":"General Assembly adopts Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Budget for 2016-17"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Budget for 2016\/17 adopted by Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">After months of debate\u00a0and several\u00a0all-night negotiation sessions of its Fifth Committee (administrative and budgetary), the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly tonight\u00a0(23 December) passed the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ\u2019s Budget for 2016-17 &#8212; a day earlier than many diplomats expected.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly Mogens Lykketoft gavelled the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ\u2019s programme budget for the next biennium 2016\/17, including the budget for the Special Political Missions, at the amount of US$ 5.4 billion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In previous years, discussions on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ\u2019s budget which includes staffing, travel, peacekeeping and administrative costs, have gone on until the early hours of Christmas Day (25<sup>th<\/sup> December) and even into the following year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/70\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2015\/12\/Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-budget-vote-23-Dec-2015.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-37033 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/70\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2015\/12\/Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-budget-vote-23-Dec-2015-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ GA votes on 2016-17 budget \" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2015\/12\/Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-budget-vote-23-Dec-2015-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2015\/12\/Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-budget-vote-23-Dec-2015-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2015\/12\/Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-budget-vote-23-Dec-2015.jpg 1632w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cI am very satisfied that the negotiations on the budget and other administrative items were concluded in such good spirit,\u201d Mr Lykketoft said. \u201cI congratulate all the delegates for their hard work in the past months and in the last very intensive days and want to thank the Chair , the Permanent Representative of Nepal, Mr. Durga Prasad Bhattarai for his excellent conduct of the negotiations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cWith the adoption of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ budget and the conclusion of the work of the 5th Committee we come to the end of what has been a remarkable year for multilateralism,\u201d Mr Lykketoft added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The General Assembly also decided on the Scales of Assessment that determine the contribution of each Member State to the Regular and Peace keeping Operations Budget, which is reviewed every three years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">While the methodology for the Regular Budget Scale of Assessment remains unchanged, in the Scale for Peace-keeping Operations, the GA agreed to some transitional measures for one Member State that will graduate from one category to another. A resolution giving the green light for the renovation project of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Office at Geneva \u2013 the Palais des Nations \u2013 was also adopted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">A number of additional decisions were taken, including on some reform projects such as further implementation of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ\u2019s transition to the new enterprise resource planning system (UMOJA), and streamlining the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ\u2019s delivery of services (Global Service Delivery Model).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Member Sates also agreed to undertake a major reform of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Common System Compensation package, the first reform of this kind in 25 years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><div class=\"woo-sc-divider\"><\/div><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Budget for 2016\/17 adopted by Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly After months of debate\u00a0and several\u00a0all-night negotiation sessions of its Fifth Committee (administrative and budgetary), the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly tonight\u00a0(23 December) passed the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ\u2019s Budget for 2016-17 &#8212; a day earlier than many diplomats expected.
