Mr Mogens Lykketoft, <\/strong><strong>President of the 70<sup>th<\/sup> session of the General Assembly at\u00a0Opening Segment of\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Signature Ceremony for the Paris Agreement<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>22 April 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Heads of State and Government, Mr. Secretary-General, Honorable Ministers, Excellences, ladies and gentlemen, it is my great honor to address the opening segment of this Paris Agreement Signing Ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This is a moment of great hope.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And for that I say congratulations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To Heads of State and Government, for demonstrating what true leadership is all about; for finding a way when many said it could not be done.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To civil society and business leaders, for keeping the pressure on and taking initiatives to keep the momentum going.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To the governments of France, Peru and previous COP Presidents for shepherding through this historic breakthrough with remarkable skill and effort.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Secretary-General, His Excellency Ban Ki-moon, for his tireless commitment and leadership in the long journey to Paris.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Together with Ms Christina Figueres, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵFCCC and others in the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ system, the Secretary-General never once lost hope, never once passed up on an opportunity to drive the negotiations forward.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To honor his work, to make the sacrifices made by all of you worthwhile, we know what we must do.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We must raise the level of ambition even further.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We must take bold steps to make this transformation happen now.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you.<\/p>\n<div class=\"woo-sc-divider\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Opening remarks by H.E.
