He is also the focal point for issues related to countries\u00a0of the G77 + China, the African Group and the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Previously,\u00a0Mateus\u00a0served as Senior Adviser and team coordinator on issues relating to budget and management within the Office of the President of the 70<sup>th<\/sup> Session of the United Nations General Assembly. He\u00a0was responsible for matters relating to the Fifth Committee.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In this role, Mateus interacted with Member States and relevant stakeholders on all matters arising from the Fifth Committee and with a special focus on the financing of peacekeeping operations and other funding arrangements to achieve and sustain peace. Mateus supported the team\u2019s work on Peacebuilding.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">During the 69<sup>th<\/sup> Session of General Assembly, he served as Adviser to the President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly on peacekeeping and the Special Political and Decolonization Committee.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">From 1999 to 2007, he worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Angola, where he was part of the team in charge of the peace process in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Great Lake Regions. He also served as an expert to the Permanent Joint Commission for Defense and Security between Angola-Zambia and between Angola-Namibia.
