{"id":101047,"date":"2017-06-15T12:29:19","date_gmt":"2017-06-15T16:29:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/71\/?p=101047"},"modified":"2017-06-15T12:29:19","modified_gmt":"2017-06-15T16:29:19","slug":"adoption-of-the-counter-terrorism-resolution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/71\/2017\/06\/15\/adoption-of-the-counter-terrorism-resolution\/","title":{"rendered":"Adoption of the Counter-terrorism resolution"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: center\"><em>As delivered<\/em><\/h4>\n<h2><strong>Remarks by Peter Thomson, President of the General Assembly, on the adoption of the counter-terrorism resolution<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>15 June 2017<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Excellencies, <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Ladies and gentlemen,<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The General Assembly meets today to renew its \u2013 and I quote \u2013 <em>\u2018unwavering commitment to strengthening international cooperation to prevent and combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations\u2019, <\/em>and to reaffirm \u2018<em>that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>It is in the spirit of this commitment that the resolution establishing the Office of Counter-Terrorism is presented today.<\/p>\n<p>This resolution will enhance the United Nations\u2019 capability to assist Member States in implementing the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy across its four pillars by ensuring greater <em>coordination and coherence across the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ system<\/em>, and by<em> improving visibility, advocacy and resource <\/em><em>mobilization<\/em> for United Nations\u2019 counter-terrorism efforts.<\/p>\n<p>I thank all delegations for working cooperatively and constructively throughout the consultation process and for supporting my office in securing this resolution, the first major institutional reform presented by Secretary-General Guterres.
