Links in the Chain of Sustainable Finance: <\/strong><\/h2>\n

Accelerating Private Investments for the SDGs, including Climate Action<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

While most agree that private finance needs to be urgently mobilized alongside public funds to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to move forward on climate action, additional efforts are still required to promote and achieve sustainable finance around the world. Recommendations for bringing coherence to recent gains and diverse initiatives are explored in a new paper by Brookings Institution scholars Homi Kharas and John McArthur, \u201cLinks in the Chain of Sustainable Finance: Accelerating Private Investments for the SDGs, including Climate Action.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The paper explores the question of how to align the responsibilities of interconnected investor, policy, regulatory, and corporate actors in a manner that creates incentives for reorienting capital flows toward SDG priorities. It further proposes a practical timetable linked to major international events in 2019, 2020 and 2023 \u2013 by which Member States can work with private sector leaders to ensure that both public and private investments meet appropriate environmental, social, and governance standards to achieve the international agreements captured in the\u00a0 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development..<\/p>\n

A high level event on accelerating capital flows and investments in the SDGs, with both authors presenting their findings, will take place on 21 September in Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵHQ.<\/p>\n

The President of the 71st<\/sup> Session of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly, H.E. Peter Thomson, will deliver the opening remarks at the event, which will be chaired by the President of the 70th Session of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly, H.E. Mogens Lykketoft.<\/p>\n
