Ambassador Vitaly Churkin, has just informed H.E. Peter Thomson, the President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly,\u00a0that the sixth informal and first colour-coded straw poll of the Security Council for the position of Secretary-General took place earlier today and that Ant\u00f3nio Guterres has emerged as the unanimous choice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Ambassador Churkin told President Thomson that the Security Council will meet tomorrow (6 October) to take a formal vote which is expected to pass by acclamation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The President\u00a0thanked him for the information and said he was\u00a0ready to further progress the process of appointing the next Secretary-General in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:
