Abdelghani Merabet is a Senior Advisor and Team Coordinator on issues related to development, climate change and migration in the Office of the President of the 72nd Session of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly.. He also leads on Second Committee, Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), High Level Political Forum (HLPF), energy, water, biodiversity, desertification and land degradation. Additionally, he serves as liaison with the G77 and China and the Arab Group.<\/p>\n

Previously, Abdelghani served in the Office of the President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly of the\u00a069th<\/sup>, 70th\u00a0and 71st<\/sup>\u00a0Sessions\u00a0as a Senior Adviser in charge of climate change, oceans, sustainable development and Fifth Committee issues.<\/p>\n

Before joining the Office of the President of the General Assembly, he served at the Permanent Mission of Algeria to the United Nations in New York, from 2009 to 2013, mainly covering Second and Third Committee issues. He was elected as Vice-Chairperson of the 19th<\/sup>\u00a0Session of the Commission on Sustainable Development. He also was the Algerian chief negotiator chairing the Group of 77 and China during the Rio+20 Summit on sustainable development, held in Rio de Janeiro in 2012. The same year, he chaired the Group during the Sessions of Second Committee, as well as the Economic and Social Council.\u00a0 He also served as national focal point of Algeria to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵFCCC).<\/p>\n

Abdelghani worked for the Ministry of Finance of Algeria for five years before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2006, where he began his diplomatic career in the Department of Economic Relations and International Cooperation.<\/p>\n

His academic background includes a specialization in Economics and Finance from the\u00a0Ecole Nationale d\u2019Administration\u00a0of Algiers and two postgraduate degrees, one in Political Science with a major in defense and international security from the University Jean Moulin in Lyon, France, and one on diplomacy and international relations from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, United States of America.<\/p>\n

Abdelghani speaks Arabic, French, English and Spanish.<\/p>\n

Ambreen Fatima Anwar Husain is an intern with the Office of the President of the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, New York, focusing on political issues. She is a graduate of Dr. RML National Law University, India, with a combined Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (Honours). Prior to her internship with the Office of the President of the General Assembly, Ambreen worked at an Intellectual Property law firm in India, with a particular focus on trade marks. While pursuing her Bachelor\u2019s course, she interned with the Women\u2019s Rights Cell of Lawyer\u2019s Collective, where she analyzed the trends in judicial announcements relating to the law of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence. While pursuing \u00a0additional internships in areas varying from intellectual property rights and corporate law to human rights law, she developed her skills in research and writing.
