background_layout=&#8221;light&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3><strong>ASSEMBLY TO BE BRIEFED BY SECRETARY-GENERAL ON MANAGEMENT REFORM<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The General Assembly will hold an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/72\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2018\/05\/SG-to-PGA-re-Reform-Briefing-14May18.pdf\">informal meeting<\/a> this afternoon to hear a briefing from the Secretary-General on his management reform proposals.<\/li>\n<li>This meeting is being held following a request from the Secretary-General.<\/li>\n<li>And it is in line with the President\u2019s commitment to inclusivity, his belief that all Member States should feel ownership of the reforms, and his readiness to facilitate interaction between Member States and the Secretariat.<\/li>\n<li>The President is expected to say that the best way to foster multilateralism is to show that the United Nations works &#8212; in the most effective, efficient and accountable manner possible.<\/li>\n<li>The meeting will take place at 3:00 p.m. in the Trusteeship Council Chamber.<\/li>\n<li>As of now, the Fifth Committee is tentatively scheduled to consider the Secretary-General\u2019s management reform proposals on 30 May.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>30 JÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵE DECLARED INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PARLIAMENTARISM<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The General Assembly plenary met this morning under the agenda item: \u201cInteraction between the United Nations, national parliaments and the Inter-Parliamentary Union\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/undocs.org\/en\/A\/72\/L.54\">resolution<\/a> that was introduced by Mexico and adopted by consensus, the Assembly decided that 30 June will now be the International Day of Parliamentarism.<\/li>\n<li>That was the date when the Inter-Parliamentary Union was founded \u2013 back in 1889.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>PRESIDENT MEETS WITH SANTA MARTA GROUP<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The President just met moments ago with the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ_PGA\/status\/998970804460285952\">Santa Marta Group<\/a>, an alliance of international police chiefs and bishops from around the world, working to eradicate human trafficking and modern-day slavery.<\/li>\n<li>They spoke about how partnerships between the United Nations, faith communities and law enforcement agencies, can help better people\u2019s lives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>CO-FACILITATORS APPOINTED FOR Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE MEETING<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The General Assembly, according to resolution 72\/139 of 12 December 2017, decided to hold a high-level meeting in 2019 on universal health coverage.<\/li>\n<li>In this regard, the President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/72\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2018\/05\/HLM-Universal-Health-Coverage-22-May.pdf\">today appointed<\/a> the Permanent Representatives of Hungary and Thailand to co-facilitate that process.<\/li>\n<li>In keeping with his previously stated commitments, this new team is gender balanced.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>CORRUPTION CONVENTION DEBATE TO BE HELD TOMORROW<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The President &#8212; in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime &#8212; will convene a\u00a0<a href=\"\/pga\/72?p=154137\">high-level debate<\/a> to mark the fifteenth anniversary of the adoption\u00a0of the United Nations Convention against Corruption.<\/li>\n<li>The debate will start at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow in the Trusteeship Council Chamber.<\/li>\n<li>Asked whether tomorrow\u2019s debate would focus on \u201cnarco-democracies\u201d, the Spokesperson said the focus would be on the Convention\u2019s anniversary and implementation, as well as emerging trends. For additional details, he urged the reporter to look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/72\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2018\/05\/PGA-letter-15th-anniversary-of-the-Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-Convention-against-corruption.pdf\">programme<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>FIFTH COMMITTEE TO CONSIDER G.S.D.M.
