This makes up well over half of the United Nations\u2019 membership.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cSo, it is clear we are committed. But commitment is not enough. We need to see results on the ground. And we have no time to waste.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>PRESIDENT MEETS OFFICIALS FROM SINGAPORE, JAPAN, EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The President is holding a number of meetings today with officials who are at the United Nations for the High-Level Political Forum.<\/li>\n<li>Those are with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ_PGA\/status\/1018919461540302848\">Singapore\u2019s Minister<\/a> for the Environment and Water Resources; the Mayor of Osaka and Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan; and a delegation from the European Parliament.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>LOCAL, REGIONAL GOVERNMENTS KEY IN IMPLEMENTING 2030 AGENDA<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The President today <a href=\"\/pga\/72?p=163698\">delivered the opening statement<\/a> at the Local and Regional Governments\u2019 Forum.<\/li>\n<li>He said, \u201cLocal and regional actors are critical in implementing the 2030 Agenda. Sustainable development is necessarily local, regional and global in nature. So, we need dialogue at all of these levels.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>PRESIDENT CONVENES HIGH-LEVEL DIALOGUE ON SAND &amp; DUST STORMS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>This afternoon the President will convene a mandated\u00a0<a href=\"\/pga\/72?p=162568\">high-level interactive dialogue<\/a> on sand and dust storms\u00a0in the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Chamber.<\/li>\n<li>The event will feature a panel discussion moderated by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights and the environment. Panellists will include Iran\u2019s Director General for International Environmental and Sustainable Development, as well as officials from the United Nations Environment Programme, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and the World Meteorological Organization.<\/li>\n<li>In his opening remarks, the President is expected to note the effects of such storms on health \u2013 from respiratory and cardiovascular disease to skin and eye problems. He will say that, \u201cfor people, the stakes of inaction on this issue are high.
