And, internationally, one cannot exist without the other.<\/li>\n<li>He added that the Rome Statute, which was adopted 20 years ago today, was written by States, agreed by States, and concerns States. But, really, it is here for people &#8212; people who have suffered and people who are at risk.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>BUSINESSES &amp; GLOBAL GOALS NEED EACH OTHER<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The President is speaking now at a high-level lunch on the theme \u201cMeasuring Business Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).\u201d The event is connected to the third SDG Business Forum.<\/li>\n<li>He is expected to talk about how businesses need the SDGs and vice versa \u2013 and why it is important to track progress in that regard.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>PRESIDENT TO MEET OFFICIALS FROM ANDORRA, CYPRUS, U.N. REFUGEE AGENCY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>In terms of bilateral meetings this afternoon, the President will be meeting with the Foreign Minister of Andorra, the Greek Cypriot negotiator, and the United Nations Refugee Agency\u2019s\u00a0Assistant High Commissioner for Protection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>GENERAL ASSSEMBLY TO OBSERVE MANDELA DAY TOMORROW<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Tomorrow at 11am in the ECOSOC Chamber, the General Assembly will observe the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/events\/mandeladay\/\">Nelson Mandela International Day<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Remarks will be delivered by President Laj\u010d\u00e1k; the Secretary-General; SDG Advocate and Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵESCO Special Envoy Forest Whitaker; South Africa\u2019s Minister of Environmental Affairs; and New York City\u2019s Commissioner of International Affairs.<\/li>\n<li>During the meeting, a new Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ stamp, commemorating the centenary of Nelson Mandela\u2019s birth, will be unveiled.<\/li>\n<li>And since volunteering is a big part of Mandela Day, the President will volunteer tomorrow afternoon at a community garden in Harlem \u2013 along with South Africa\u2019s Deputy Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ\u2019s Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications, and the New York City Commissioner for International Affairs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>ASSEMBLY MEETS INITIAL GOAL BY FINALIZING GLOBAL COMPACT FOR MIGRATION<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The Spokesperson was asked about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/72\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2018\/07\/migration.pdf\">Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration<\/a>, the text of which had been finalized on 13 July. Asked what the President and the General Assembly could do now \u2013 following that finalization \u2013 to make sure that migrants were treated humanely, the Spokesperson said that, from the General Assembly\u2019s perspective, its initial goal had been fulfilled.
