Deputy Chef de Cabinet<\/span><\/h3>\nAmbassador Yanerit Morgan Sotomayor is the Deputy Chef de Cabinet to the President of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly.<\/p>\n
Prior to joining the office, she served as the Mexican Ambassador to Ecuador from November 2017 to August 2018.<\/p>\n
A Mexican career diplomat, she joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1988, and became a\u00a0member of the Mexican Foreign Service in 1990. In August 2005, she was awarded the rank of Ambassador.<\/p>\n
In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Morgan served\u00a0as\u00a0Director-General of American Regional Organisms and Mechanisms twice, from 2004 to 2005\u00a0and from 2016 to 2017, and as\u00a0Director-General for Central America and the Caribbean countries once from 2015 to 2016.<\/p>\n
Prior to that, she held the position of\u00a0Deputy Director-General\u00a0for Human Rights from 1998 to 2004 and chief of department at the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Direction from 1988 to 1993.<\/p>\n
She has served twice at the Permanent Mission of Mexico to the United Nations in New York. During her first time at the Mission, from 1993 to 1998, she served as a delegate of Mexico to the Third Committee on social and humanitarian issues. In 2010, Ambassador Morgan returned to New York for four years as the Deputy Permanent Representative of Mexico to the United Nations, after serving four years as\u00a0Ambassador of Mexico to Panama from\u00a02006 to\u00a02010. While in Panama, she was awarded\u00a0with the Vasco Nu\u00f1ez de Balboa medal of the Gran Cruz \u00a0by the Government of Panama.<\/p>\n
As\u00a0Deputy Permanent\u00a0Representative of Mexico to the United Nations,\u00a0she facilitated the negotiations of the Declaration of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly High Level Dialogue on International Migration and Development in 2013 and chaired negotiations of the resolution on the World Drug Problem, which lead to a\u00a0Special Session in 2016.<\/p>\n
She also served as Vice President of the Third Small Island Developing States\u00a0(SIDS) Conference\u00a0in Samoa in 2014 and moderated the\u00a0round-table on social development, health, and non-communicable diseases (NCDs), youth and women. She also served as facilitator for the negotiations of the declaration of the Latin American and Caribbean preparatory meeting of the 58th session of the\u00a0Commission on the\u00a0Status of the\u00a0Women (Mexico City, February 2014).<\/p>\n
A Mexican delegate, she participated in the annual session of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Commission on Human Rights from 1990 to 1994, as well as\u00a0the World Conference on Human Rights in Vienna in 1993 and\u00a0the World Conference on Women in\u00a0Beijing in\u00a01995.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Morgan holds a degree in International Relations from the National School for Professional Studies Acatl\u00e1n of the National University of Mexico (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵAM).<\/p>\n
She is married and has two daughters.<\/p>\n
