NOBEL PEACE PRIZE<\/h3>\n
This morning, the President of the General Assembly, Ms. Mar\u00eda Fernanda Espinosa, tweeted her heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Denis Mukwege and Ms. Nadia Murad on winning the Nobel Peace Prize of 2018. President Espinosa said, and I quote. \u201cYour courage inspires all of us. People\u2019s voices must be heard to #endsexualviolence\u201d. She also used the hashtag of her Presidency which is #Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ4All<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
THIRD COMMITTEE STATEMENT<\/h3>\n
Earlier today, President Espinosa delivered a statement to the Third Committee (The Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee), welcoming their work and congratulating H.E. the Permanent Representative of Afghanistan, Ambassador Mahmoud Saikal, on his election to preside over the Committee. Ms. Espinosa remembered that five out of her 7 priorities for this Presidency are directly related to the work of the Third Committee such as: gender equality, people with disabilities, migrants and refugees, youth and decent work.<\/p>\n

MEETINGS<\/h3>\nThe President of the General Assembly held a meeting with H.E, the Permanent Representative of the Democratic People\u2019s Republic of Korea, Ambassador Kim Song.\u00a0 She is encouraged by the latest developments in regard with the Korean Peninsula. Ms. Espinosa firmly believes that the only and possible way forward is through dialogue.<\/div>\n
Later today,\u00a0President Espinosa will meet the Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix.<\/p>\n
