We demonstrate, unequivocally, that the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ is relevant to all.<\/p>\n<p>And this gives me hope.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243;][et_pb_code _builder_version=&#8221;3.17.4&#8243;]\n<!-- iframe plugin v.6.0 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"250\" src=\"\/\/www.un.org\/webcast\/1362235914001\/B1J3DDQJf_default\/index.html?videoId=5980599762001\" scrolling=\"yes\" class=\"iframe-class\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe>\n<!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] -->[\/et_pb_code][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.17.4&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>The Global Compact on Refugees shows the best of our shared sense of humanity.<\/p>\n<p>Refugee-hosting countries continue demonstrating extraordinary levels of generosity and commitment to protecting refugees. We also must not forget that low and middle-income countries host over 80 per cent of all refugees.<\/p>\n<p>And this is why the Global Compact on Refugees is so important; it reflects a spirit of burden and responsibility sharing.<\/p>\n<p>My own experience, working to help refugees from Colombia in my own country of Ecuador, has taught me many lessons, not least of which the value of this Compact.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_testimonial _builder_version=&#8221;3.12.2&#8243; author=&#8221;Mar\u00eda Fernanda Espinosa Garc\u00e9s&#8221; portrait_url=&#8221;https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/73\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/53\/2018\/09\/PGA-73084-e1537294481964.jpg&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221; job_title=&#8221;President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly&#8221; quote_icon_background_color=&#8221;#f5f5f5&#8243; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; quote_icon_color=&#8221;#00aff8&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #00aff8\">My presidency will strive to bring the United Nations closer to the people, through effective, dynamic and meaningful communication that has relevance to the public, and which strengthens their sense of ownership and support for this Organization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_testimonial][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.17.4&#8243; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Now we must act on our words and commitments. Today marks the beginning, not the end, of our work to respond comprehensively to the challenges that face refugees and their hosts. As of tomorrow, all Member States, together with civil society and the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Family, are called upon to step up our efforts and deliver.<\/p>\n<p>The 25 million refugees in the world today expect this of us.<\/p>\n<p>In closing, let me just say this: today I am proud, and I am grateful.<\/p>\n<p>I am proud as the President of the General Assembly, and I am grateful to the General Assembly for its action.<\/p>\n<p>And I am happy to stand together with a true champion for refugees \u2013 thank you, Filippo for your leadership and personal commitment to assist and protect refugees.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bertine Bahige \u2013 your personal experience is the proof of the relevance of this Global Compact. We are happy to share this moment with you.<\/p>\n<p>And I am happy to stand next to you, Amina \u2013 together with the Secretary-General &#8211; your leadership in support of making the United Nations relevant to all people is indeed commendable.<\/p>\n<p>Today, we have demonstrated our efficacy and utility, and we have cemented our role as the \u2018Parliament of Humanity\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Now let us turn to implementation.<\/p>\n<p>Well done.
