PGA, FAO AND Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-HABITAT TO HOST MEETING WITH CITY MAYORS<\/strong><\/p>\n
A group of city mayors will be in the United Nations on Tuesday, 19 February, to take part in a meeting on \u201cThe Role of Cities in the Global Agenda, including Cities for Sustainable Development, Food Security, Nutrition and Climate Change.<\/p>\n
The meeting is being co-organized by the General Assembly, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-Habitat.<\/p>\n
President Mar\u00eda Fernanda Espinosa will speak at the opening ceremony which will be attended by the Director-General of FAO, Jos\u00e9 Graziano da Silva. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-Habitat Executive Director, Ms. Maimunah Mohd Sharif, will deliver her remarks through video message.<\/p>\n
The mayors of Cidade da Praia, Valencia, Quito, Surabaya and a representative of New York City will participate in an interactive dialogue and panel discussion in the afternoon. The objective of the meeting is to approach the development agenda from global issues to local priorities. The event is scheduled for tomorrow from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Trusteeship Council. Ms. Espinosa started her day with an interview to Harper\u2019s Bazaar. This afternoon she will have a luncheon with the Mayor of Quito, H.E. Mauricio Rodas. Later today, Ms. Espinosa will grant an interview to Rudaw TV News and have separate bilateral meetings with the Ambassador of El Salvador, H.E. Rub\u00e9n Armando on the High-Level Political Forum Summit and also the High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, H. E. Miguel \u00c1ngel Moratines.<\/p>\n
