Excellencies,<\/p>\n
This has been a very rich discussion \u2013 thanks to the excellent contributions from our speakers and your interventions.<\/p>\n
It was extremely useful to hear about the progress being made towards greater operational and policy coherence, and towards fostering a cross-pillar approach for effective peacebuilding and sustaining peace. I would like to commend the Peacebuilding Commission for the work done to date.<\/p>\n
You have also underscored the importance of conflict prevention to peacebuilding and sustaining peace \u2013 that cannot be overemphasized.<\/p>\n
But clearly, more needs to be done, Mr. Chair \u2013 on securing political solutions; on increasing coherence and coordination; and on enhancing national ownership, which Member States have identified as an essential ingredient for success. \u201cOwnership\u201d is perhaps one of the key words today.<\/p>\n
On the issue of financing, I really appreciate the frank exchanges we heard today. It is vital that we identify funding priorities, and ways to support efforts in the field.<\/p>\n
This is an area where the General Assembly has a crucial role to play, including through the Fifth Committee.<\/p>\n
[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”1_2″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.19.7″]<\/p>\n
As I said this morning: we must make progress towards adequate, predictable and sustained funding so that we can support truly effective peacebuilding on the ground.<\/p>\n
Our discussions today also emphasized the importance of partnerships. We must use all tools at our disposal \u2013 including, of course, the Peacebuilding Fund \u2013 to enhance strategic engagement and to mobilize partners: regional and sub-regional organizations, International Financial Institutions, business and civil society \u2013 especially women and youth. They are crucial actors when it comes to fostering local ownership. They help to build confidence in peace agreements, and to re-build trust and social cohesion.<\/p>\n
