PGA ANSWERS QUESTIONS\u00a0<\/strong>FROM YOÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵG PEOPLE IN LIVE\u00a0<\/strong>TWITTER SESSION<\/strong><\/p>\n
This morning, the President of the General Assembly has answered questions from young people\u00a0FROM\u00a0around the world through a live\u00a0twitter session during the interactive dialogue on Youth, Peace and Security. The event under the theme \u201cYouth: Empowered, Included and Equal\u201d,\u00a0is taking place\u00a0in\u00a0the Trusteeship Council.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Youth, Peace and Security is one of the seven priorities of the PGA\u2019s agenda. Ms. Espinosa believes that young people play a crucial role in\u00a0achieving the\u00a0Agenda 2030 on Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n
The event which is organised by ECOSOC is gathering Ministers of State, representatives of youth organizations and high-level speakers. They are debating investment in youth development, financing and other means of implementation.<\/p>\n
The world has today over 1.8 billion young people. In her interaction with participants, Ms. Mar\u00eda Fernanda Espinosa is addressing issues such as the inclusion of indigenous youth in decision-making processes. The role of young people in peacebuilding and post-conflict societies, and how\u00a0their voices\u00a0can\u00a0be heard and respected? The hashtag for this is: Youth4Peace.<\/p>\n

GA HOLDS HIGH-LEVEL EVENT ON FUTURE OF WORK & 100th<\/sup> ANNIVERSARY OF ILO<\/strong><\/p>\n
The President of the General Assembly will convene tomorrow, 10 April, a high-level meeting to commemorate the one-hundredth anniversary of the establishment of the International Labour Organization (ILO).\u00a0 This will be followed by a High-Level Meeting of the GA on the\u00a0\u201cThe Future of Work\u201d. \u00a0<\/p>\n
In a note to Member States, Ms. Espinosa stressed that the ILO was created on the realization that clear rules were needed to ensure that economic progress went hand in hand with social justice, prosperity and peace for all.<\/p>\n
Such principles remain fundamental today as new forces driven by technological advancements, changing demographics, globalization and climate change rapidly re-shape the world of work.<\/p>\n
The PGA also stresses that women continue to bear the brunt of unpaid care and domestic work. Globally, women continue to be paid an average of 20% less than men to do the same job. Young people are also affected: with more than 64 million unemployed youth worldwide and 145 million young workers living in poverty, youth employment remains a global challenge. \u00a0<\/p>\n
The high-level meeting will be attended by several State Ministers, the Director General of ILO, Mr. Guy Ryder, representatives of labour organizations, the private sector, youth, academia, civil society and other guests.<\/p>\n
Due to a large list of speakers, the meeting on the Future of Work will be concluded on 11 April.<\/p>\n
