PGA: POLITICAL WILL CRUCIAL TO FINANC<\/strong>ING<\/strong>\u00a0SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n
This morning, the President of the General Assembly spoke at the opening of the Fourth\u00a0Annual ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development. \u00a0<\/p>\n
Ms. Mar\u00eda Fernanda Espinosa said that political will is crucial\u00a0in order\u00a0to finance the Sustainable Development Goals of the Agenda 2030.\u00a0 The meeting\u00a0was\u00a0attended by the President of ECOSOC, H.E. Ambassador Inga Rhonda King, the Secretary\u00a0General, Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, and representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and the World Trade Organization.<\/p>\n
The PGA highlighted financing gaps and the way of solving them. Ms. Espinosa affirmed that developed countries need to fulfill their commitments in the Addis Ababa Agenda to finance development, as well\u00a0as through\u00a0the Official Development Assistance, ODA.<\/p>\n
Ms. Espinosa also stressed the importance of a partnership on additional investments from the private sector and the public sector. She said that small and medium-sized businesses form 70% of work sources around the world.<\/p>\n
She also stressed that in order to achieve the Agenda 2030, the world needs to create 600 million new jobs. The PGA stressed the need for a green economy, low-carbon technologies and clean energy sources.\u00a0 The PGA ended\u00a0by saying that\u00a0the\u00a0future of sustainable development\u00a0depends on full and proper\u00a0investments and that only\u00a0by achieving this will\u00a0humanity\u00a0be freed\u00a0from poverty.\u00a0 You can access her speech and more information on our website: un.org\/pga\/73.<\/p>\n

PRESIDENT ESPINOSA TO SPEAK TO STUDENTS AT WILLIAM PATERSON Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵIVERSITY ON TUESDAY<\/strong><\/p>\n
Tomorrow, 16 April, the PGA will deliver the Annual Tinker, Spring Lecture at William Paterson University, in New Jersey.<\/p>\n
Ms. Espinosa will speak about\u00a0\u2018Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ: strengthening multilateralism, migration and gender equality\u2019.<\/p>\n
The PGA will talk to staff and students, and also take questions directly from students.\u00a0 The event will start at 11:00\u00a0am. and after this, the PGA will attend a luncheon in her honour. The lecture will be webcast by William Paterson University.<\/p>\n

President Espinosa started her day very early this morning with the Morning Minga, a breakfast monthly dialogue on cooperation with Permanent Representatives to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ. Today, the theme was communication.\u00a0 As we speak, Ms. Espinosa is chairing a meeting at the GA Hall on South-South Cooperation for Development. This afternoon, she will take part in a luncheon with Women Ambassadors, and take part in the opening of the exhibition \u201cOman\u2019s Message of Islam\u201d, which will be hosted near the Vienna Caf\u00e9, here at the Secretariat.<\/p>\n
