MEMBER STATES TO HOLD CONSULTATIONS ON Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ 75th ANNIVERSARY<\/strong><\/p>\n

Next week, on Monday 6 May, Member States will hold a meeting of the intergovernmental process on the commemoration of the 75th<\/sup>\u00a0Anniversary of the United Nations, which will be marked in 2020.<\/p>\n

In a letter, which was circulated on 29 April, the President of the General Assembly Ms. Mar\u00eda Fernanda Espinosa informed Member States about the consultations.<\/p>\n

The process is being led by the Ambassador of Singapore, H.E. Burhan Gafoor, and the Permanent Representative of Iceland, H.E, Mrs. Bergd\u00eds Ellertsd\u00f3ttir, who are the co-facilitators appointed by the PGA.<\/p>\n

This will be the second intergovernmental meeting on the date and modalities related to the 75th<\/sup>Anniversary of the United Nations.<\/p>\n

A zero draft resolution has been prepared and will be considered by Member States. In a letter, both co-facilitators expressed their intention to finalise the document by end-May.<\/p>\n

Ambassadors Gafoord and Ellertsd\u00f3ttir have stressed their commitment to an open, transparent and inclusive process.<\/p>\n

PGA\u2019s AGENDA<\/strong><\/p>\n

The PGA started her day with a Book Signing at the Mission of Japan on the Celebration to the Enthronement of His Imperial Highness Naruhito. She later, granted an interview to the website Scientific American. Ms. Espinosa had a bilateral meeting with the UK Ambassador, H.E Karen Pierce, and as we speak, she is meeting H.E Rub\u00e9n Escalante, the Ambassador of El Salvador. This afternoon, Ms. Espinosa will talk to students of the New School on multilateralism.<\/p>\n
