PRESIDENT MAR\u00cdA FERNANDA\u00a0ESPINOSA TO START OFFICIAL VISIT TO JORDAN<\/b><\/p>\n

The President of the General Assembly\u00a0will undertake an official visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan from 21-24 July.<\/p>\n

Ms. Espinosa will arrive in Amman on Sunday afternoon and will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ayman Hussein Abdullah Al-Safadi.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the PGA will be received by Jordan\u2019s Prime Minister, H.E. Omar Razzaz,\u00a0after which she\u00a0will meet the Speaker of the House, as well as members of the Foreign Affairs, and the Environment Committees.<\/p>\n

The leader of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly will hold separate bilateral meetings with the Minister of Youth and members of the Ghor el Safi Women Association for Social Development, which includes a Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵESCO supported initiative to advance women\u2019s economic empowerment.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, 23 July, Ms. Espinosa will travel to the Zaatari Refugee Camp where she will be met by colleagues from Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵHCR, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵICEF, WFP and others.<\/p>\n

Ms. Espinosa will interact directly with the refugees in Zaatari including women and girls to listen to their personal stories\u00a0and express her support to advance the interest of women and girls.<\/p>\n

As it is the case in her official travels, the PGA will hold meetings with the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Country Team in Amman. She will also hold talks with women leaders.<\/p>\n

During her visit to Jordan, Ms. Espinosa will speak to national and international media outlets.<\/p>\n

Travel costs are being covered by the PGA\u2019s Office Trust Fund.<\/p>\n

PGA TO ADDRESS GOOGLE EVENT MARKING 50TH<\/sup>\u00a0ANNIVERSARY OF THE APOLLO 11 MOON LANDING<\/b><\/p>\n

Ms. Mar\u00eda Fernanda Espinosa will be a special keynote speaker at an event this evening\u00a0to mark the 50th<\/sup>anniversary of the landing of human beings on the moon.<\/p>\n

The PGA will be joined by female NASA astronauts, entrepreneurs, climate action experts, space communities, youth and members of the New York Space Alliance (NYSA).<\/p>\n

The event will also focus on fostering innovation and entrepreneurial communities globally with a special emphasis on women in space.<\/p>\n

Ms. Espinosa has advocated for more support to ensure a bigger female presence in in fields such as sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).<\/p>\n

Globally, less than 30% of researchers are women and under a third of female students select STEM-related subjects in higher education.<\/p>\n

PGA\u2019S AGENDA<\/b><\/p>\n

The PGA started her day by taking part in a retreat meeting with the President-elect on the work of the Office of the PGA. She will later meet with the Permanent Representatives of Ireland and Fiji. This afternoon, Ms.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Espinosa will be at the GA Hall for the adoption of the draft resolution on the modalities and the organization aspects of the International Migration Review Forum.\u00a0 The PGA will hold a bilateral meeting with the Secretary of State for Global Spain, H.E. Ms. Irene Lozano, and will visit the office of Google in New York on the\u00a0Google moonshots event.<\/p>\n
