PGA SENDS CONDOLENCES TO CHINA AND INDIA AFTER NATURAL DISASTERS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ms. Espinosa has sent her condolences to the people and the Government of India after the monsoon floods in the southern and western parts of the country, which led to over 140 deaths, and hundreds of thousands of people being evacuated.<\/p>\n

The PGA expressed her solidarity to all of those who were affected by the natural disaster.<\/p>\n

Almost 50% of the fatal casualties took place in the state of Kerala, in the south-west of India.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend, the PGA issued a tweet expressing sorrow for the loss of life and devastation caused by Typhoon Lekima in China.<\/p>\n

The typhoon hit Zhejiang province on early Saturday morning causing heavy floods and landslides.\u00a0Over a million people had to be evacuated in the province.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

On her Twitter account, Ms. Espinosa sent her condolences to the people and the Government of China and said the international community is ready to cooperate with the country, if needed.<\/p>\n

MS. ESPINOSA JOINS WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION IN WELCOMING NEWS ON NEW EBOLA DRUGS<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The President of the General Assembly welcomes the news that two of the fours Ebola drugs being tested in the Democratic Republic of Congo have shown to be more effective.<\/p>\n

Ms. Espinosa is delighted to hear from the Director General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Gebhreyesus, that the patients can now be offered an even better chance of survival.<\/p>\n

She commends the incredible work of WHO and other health professionals in tackling the outbreak of Ebola in the DRC.<\/p>\n

The PGA started her day by meeting the Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, H.E. Mr. Syed Mohamad Hasrin Aidid.<\/p>\n

Ms. Espinosa was later interviewed by Hola USA Magazine and held separate meetings on the preparations for the upcoming SDG Summit, and the High-Level Forum of the Culture of Peace.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
