IN AUSTRIA, PRESIDENT ESPINOSA MEETS FOREIGN MINISTER AND TAKES PART IN CELEBRATIONS OF 40TH\u00a0<\/sup>ANNIVERSARY OF Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ HQ\u2019S IN VIENNA<\/strong><\/p>\n

The President of the General Assembly has\u00a0begun\u00a0her official visit to Austria, where she met, this morning, the country\u2019s Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs, H.E. Alexander Schallenberg, in Vienna.<\/p>\n

Ms. Mar\u00eda Fernanda Espinosa praised Austria\u2019s strong commitment to multilateralism, to the rule of law, to advance women empowerment and to actively contribute to supporting countries to implement and achieve the 2030 Agenda.<\/p>\n

In her meeting with Mr. Schallenberg, the PGA also\u00a0discussed\u00a0climate action and disarmament.<\/p>\n

The PGA later attended an event to celebrate the 40th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary of the foundation of the Vienna International Centre, the Headquarters for the United Nations in Vienna.<\/p>\n

Ms. Espinosa was received by the heads of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ agencies, which are based in Vienna, including Director General, Mr. Yury Fedotov.<\/p>\n

She later held separate bilateral meetings with the\u00a0chiefs of agencies\u00a0and signed the book of\u00a0condolence\u00a0for the former director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mr. Yukiya Amano, who died last month.<\/p>\n

PGA TO MEET PRESIDENT AND CHANCELLOR OF AUSTRIA ON SATURDAY\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tomorrow, Saturday 24 August, Ms. Espinosa will travel to Alpbach, accompanied by the President of Austria, H.E. Mr. Alexander Van der Bellen, and the country\u2019s Federal Chancellor, H.E. Ms. Brigitte Bierlein.\u00a0<\/p>\n

They will take part in\u00a0the European Forum, where\u00a0the PGA will be a keynote speaker.<\/p>\n

Ms. Espinosa will hold a bilateral meeting with the former Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, and the former President of Austria, Mr. Heinz Fischer.<\/p>\n

Whilst in Austria, the GA President is granting interviews to national and international media outlets.<\/p>\n

Ms. Espinosa and her delegation will be back in New York on Sunday.<\/p>\n
