Good afternoon, everyone!<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>PRESIDENT ESPINOSA EXPRESSES SOLIDARITY WITH VICTIMS OF HURRICANE DORIAN<\/strong><\/p>\n

The President of the General Assembly has expressed solidarity with the victims and all of those who are being affected by\u00a0Hurricane Dorian.<\/p>\n

In a tweet, Ms. Mar\u00eda Fernanda Espinosa regretted the destruction and devastation caused by the hurricane\u00a0in the Bahamas, which\u00a0has so far\u00a0caused five deaths and left at least 20 people injured.<\/p>\n

The PGA has urged the international community to stand ready to help.<\/p>\n

She is monitoring the situation very closely as the hurricane moves towards the south and to the east coast of the United States threatening more havoc and destruction.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

GA PRESIDENT ARRIVES\u00a0<\/strong>IN THE<\/strong>\u00a0KINGDOM OF THE NETHERLANDS FOR\u00a0<\/strong>FINAL<\/strong>\u00a0OFFICIAL VISIT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ms. Espinosa has arrived in the Hague, this morning, for the last official visit of her Presidency.<\/p>\n

The PGA is taking part in the Second World Meeting of Societies for International Law and in meetings with members of the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

Shortly after arriving, she held separate bilateral meetings with the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, H.E. Ms. Sigrid Kaag, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Stef Blok. She also held an informal conversation with a group of women leaders.<\/p>\n

Before delivering her remarks at the event on\u00a0\u201cCurrent Challenges to International Law: The Role of Societies of International Law\u201d, Ms. Espinosa met with the President of the International Court of Justice, H.E. Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf.<\/p>\n

Previously to the Hague, the GA President visited Slovenia, where she spoke at the\u00a0Bled Strategic Forum at the invitation of the country\u2019s President, H.E. Mr. Borut Pahor. She also met several members of the Government and took part in the Presidential Talk, and in a conversation with young participants of the Forum.<\/p>\n

After concluding both trips, the PGA will return to New York tomorrow.<\/p>\n

Her delegation includes an adviser, a coordination officer and her personal assistant. All travel costs are being covered by the PGA\u2019s Office Trust Fund.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

MS. ESPINOSA WELCOMED ACTIVIST GRETA THÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵBERG TO THE Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵITED NATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

As you know, on Friday, the PGA welcomed climate activist Greta Thunberg to the United Nations Headquarters.<\/p>\n

Ms. Espinosa received in her office, Ms. Thunberg, from Sweden, and Ms. Alexandria Villase\u00f1or and Ms. Xiye Bastida, from the United States, who also advocate for climate action.<\/p>\n

Ms. Thunberg told the PGA that she was in the United Nations in order to reinforce her appeal that the Climate Summit must be about actions and a turning point in the fight against climate change.<\/p>\n

The group talked about the fires in the Amazon region and other forests in the world. Ms. Espinosa spoke about her work as a young professional from Ecuador in the Amazon Forest.<\/p>\n

Following a conversation in the PGA\u2019s Office, Ms. Espinosa accompanied Ms. Thunberg and her group to the GA Hall and explained how her work is done in the plenary room.<\/p>\n
