Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, Representantes Permanente de Nigeria ante las Naciones Unidas, se dirige a la Asamblea General tras su elecci\u00f3n como Presidente del 74\u00ba Periodo de Sesiones de la Asamblea.<\/p><\/div>\n
Debemos seguir invirtiendo en el sostenimiento de la paz y en la prevenci\u00f3n de conflictos. En vista de que nuestra Organizaci\u00f3n est\u00e1 resuelta a \u201cpreservar a las generaciones venideras del flagelo de la guerra\u201d y de que las Naciones Unidas no han cumplido con las expectativas de los padres fundadores en cuanto a prevenir numerosos conflictos violentos y atrocidades en masa, debemos asumir la responsabilidad colectiva de transformar al mundo en un lugar mejor, m\u00e1s seguro y pac\u00edfico. La promoci\u00f3n de los derechos humanos y el empoderamiento de las mujeres y de los j\u00f3venes merecen ser objeto de especial atenci\u00f3n, y me dedicar\u00e9 a promover la igualdad de g\u00e9nero a trav\u00e9s de todo el sistema de las Naciones Unidas, comenzando por mi propia Oficina.<\/p>\n
Conmemoraremos el septuag\u00e9simo quinto aniversario de la creaci\u00f3n de las Naciones Unidas el a\u00f1o pr\u00f3ximo. Esto representa una oportunidad singular para que reduzcamos el d\u00e9ficit de confianza entre las naciones, puesto que todos compartimos las mismas aspiraciones y no tenemos otra opci\u00f3n sino la de trabajar juntos. Para hacer realidad la visi\u00f3n de nuestros padres fundadores debemos velar por que la indiferencia y la indecisi\u00f3n no se infiltren en nuestra Organizaci\u00f3n. La Asamblea General debe cumplir su papel de salvar brechas y de promover la acci\u00f3n colectiva para hacer frente a todas las cuestiones internacionales que merecen atenci\u00f3n, en coordinaci\u00f3n y colaboraci\u00f3n estrechas con el Secretario General, el Consejo de Seguridad y el Consejo Econ\u00f3mico y Social.<\/p>\n
En las pr\u00f3ximas semanas y durante mi presidencia, espero contar con el apoyo y la solidaridad de todos los Estados Miembros de las Naciones Unidas, as\u00ed como de la Secretar\u00eda. Voy a sondear el robusto potencial que ofrece la capacidad de convocaci\u00f3n de la Oficina del Presidente de la Asamblea General y utilizar\u00e9 sus herramientas de promoci\u00f3n para fomentar un enfoque multilateral que permita identificar soluciones viables a los problemas que enfrentamos. Trabajar\u00e9 junto con los Estados Miembros para racionalizar nuestra labor y mejorar la manera en que realizamos nuestras tareas en las Naciones Unidas. En vista de que la mayor\u00eda de nosotros hemos se\u00f1alado a la atenci\u00f3n el n\u00famero creciente de reuniones, con los consiguientes riesgos de socavar el di\u00e1logo genuino y de sobrecargar con ellas a las delegaciones, me esforzar\u00e9 con todos los miembros por encontrar soluciones adecuadas, pues estoy convencido de que debemos hacer que las Naciones Unidas sean m\u00e1s eficientes y eficaces y rindan m\u00e1s cuentas a la poblaci\u00f3n a la servimos.<\/p>\n
Por \u00faltimo, como Presidente de la Asamblea General durante el septuag\u00e9simo cuarto per\u00edodo de sesiones, quiero reiterar que la apertura, la inclusividad y la transparencia guiar\u00e1n todas las actuaciones de la Oficina del Presidente.<\/p>\n

I am grateful to the Federal Republic of Nigeria for nominating me for this position, the Group of African States for endorsing my candidacy and all Member States for extending their invaluable support.\r\n\r\nI congratulate President Espinosa Garc\u00e9s on her tireless efforts in guiding our work throughout the current session and thank the Secretary-General for his leadership at this critical moment for the United Nations.\r\n\r\nAs I announced in my vision statement and during the interactive dialogue on 13 May, the implementation of the existing mandates for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with a particular focus on peace and security, poverty eradication, zero hunger, quality education, climate action and inclusion, will constitute the major priorities of my presidency. Accordingly, the high-level political forum to be convened during the Assembly\u2019s seventy-fourth session, the Secretary-General\u2019s climate summit in September, the high-level events on universal health coverage, financing for development and the Small Island Developing States (SAMOA) Accelerated Modalities of Action Pathway, the second United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development, to be held in Lisbon, the commemoration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and all the other important meetings during the seventy-fourth session will provide major opportunities to promote the implementation of our goals and targets. We must seize all of those opportunities to galvanize political momentum and action at the highest level. I am committed to promoting the necessary partnerships with all stakeholders to achieve our objectives and, ultimately, doing our best to ensure peace and prosperity, particularly for the most vulnerable.\r\n\r\nWe must continue to invest in sustaining peace and conflict prevention. Given that our Organization strives to \u201csave succeeding generations from the scourge of war\u201d, and that the United Nations has not met the expectations of its founding fathers in terms of preventing many violent conflicts and mass atrocities, we must take on the collective responsibility for making the world a better, safer and more peaceful place. The promotion of human rights and the employment of women and young people deserve special attention, and I will devote myself to the promotion of gender parity throughout the United Nations system, starting with my own Office.\r\n\r\nWe will commemorate the seventy-fifth anniversary of the creation of the United Nations next year. That presents us with a unique opportunity to reduce the trust deficit among nations, as we all share the same aspirations and have no choice but to work together. If we are to achieve the visions of our founding fathers, we must ensure that indifference and indecision do not creep into our Organization. The General Assembly must play its role in bridging the gaps and promoting collective action to address all international issues that deserve attention, in close coordination and collaboration with the Secretary-General, the Security Council and the Economic and Social Council.\r\n\r\nIn the coming weeks and during my presidency, I will count on the support and solidarity of all States Members of the United Nations, as well as the Secretariat. I will explore the robust potential of the convening platform of the Office of the President of the General Assembly and use its advocacy tools to promote a multilateral approach to finding workable solutions to the issues confronting us. I will work with Member States to streamline our work and improve the way we do business at the United Nations.\r\n\r\nAs most of us have drawn attention to the growing number of events, with the attendant risks of undermining genuine dialogue and overstretching delegations, I will work with all members on appropriate solutions, because I believe that we must make the United Nations more efficient and effective and more accountable to the people we serve.\r\n\r\nFinally, as President of the General Assembly at its seventy-fourth session, I want to reiterate that openness, inclusivity and transparency will guide all the actions of the Office of the President.\r\n\r\nSource<\/a>","_et_gb_content_width":"","footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"class_list":["post-166286","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"\n
