PRESIDENTS OF GENERAL ASSEMBLY & ECOSOC HOLD COORDINATION MEETING

  • This morning the President held his second??with the President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). They discussed how to best align their common efforts and agendas ¨C to promote coherence within the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ.
  • They spoke about preparations for the General Assembly¡¯s special session on COVID-19, to be held on 3 and 4 December.
  • They also touched on joint events of the General Assembly and ECOSOC, including the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the World Summit for Social Development, which will be held on 1 December.?

NEW BOARD OF ADVISERS TO ADOPT ROADMAP ON LEAST DEVELOPED & DEVELOPING STATES

  • This afternoon, the President will hold the inaugural meeting with his new?Board of Advisers?for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States.
  • The group will discuss how these countries, despite representing almost half of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ membership, face a disproportionate amount of unresolved challenges.
  • This meeting aims to adopt a roadmap outlining the issues the Board will be tackling and possible outcomes.

ECONOMIC & FINANCIAL COMMITTEE TAKES ACTION ON DRAFT RESOLUTIONS

  • The General Assembly¡¯s Second Committee, which handles economic and financial issues, is meeting this morning to take action on draft resolutions.
  • The topics of those texts include: sustainable development; disaster risk reduction; the?Convention on Biological Diversity; combating sand and dust storms; Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ-Habitat; international migration and development; eradication of poverty; and agricultural development, food security and nutrition.
