United Nations, New York, 7 July 2021 ¨CThe President of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Volkan Bozk?r, has concluded his visit to Uzbekistan, which took place from 5-7 July.
The President was received in Tashkent by H.E. Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The President of the General Assembly congratulated Uzbekistan on its election to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Human Rights Council, thanked its active participation in the 75th session of the General Assembly, and noted Uzbekistan¡¯s initiatives regarding the Aral Sea region and the role of parliaments in SDG implementation.
The Presidents had a detailed discussion on the current situation in Afghanistan and acknowledged the need for socio-economic development and support to maintain peace and stability.
The two Presidents also discussed the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic; the need for fair and equitable access to vaccines; the expansion of digital technologies; support to gender equality and efforts to empowering women and young people.
In addition to the Head of State, the President of the General Assembly held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Abdulaziz Kamilov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan. The President and Foreign Minister discussed peace and stability in Afghanistan; regional cooperation in Central Asia; the empowerment of youth and expansion of digital connectivity; and equitable access to vaccines for COVID-19.
The President also met with H.E. Mrs. Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairperson of the Senate, and H.E. Mr. Nurdinjon Ismoilov, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. During both meetings, the President expressed appreciation for Uzbekistan¡¯s commitment to multilateral efforts on sustainable development, evidenced by the institutionalization of the SDGs and parliamentary oversight of implementation. The President also commended the commitment to boosting women leaders in politics & the empowerment of youth.
In addition to bilateral discussions, the President visited the historic, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵESCO-recognized, cities of Samarkand and Bukhara.
