International Day of Remembrance of the victims of Slavery and the
Transatlantic Slave Trade

In accordance with General Assembly resolution 70/7 of 4 November 2015, the President of the General Assembly will convene a plenary meeting of the General Assembly to commemorate the International Day of Remembrance of the victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, on Thursday, 25 March 2021, at 10:00 a.m., in the General Assembly Hall, at the United Nations Headquarters.
The theme for this year¡¯s observance is “Ending Slavery¡¯s Legacy of Racism: A Global Imperative for Justice”.
As in previous annual commemorations, and without setting a precedent, I intend to invite Dr. Lisa M. Coleman, Senior Vice President for Global Inclusion, Diversity and Strategic Innovation, and Chief Diversity Officer at the New York University, to deliver the keynote statement at the commemorative meeting of the seventy-fifth session of the General Assembly.
