RIGHTS CHIEF, DISCUSSES NEED TO UPHOLD HUMAN RIGHTS DURING PANDEMIC<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This morning the President held a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ_PGA\/status\/1318207955368660992\">virtual meeting<\/a> with Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet. This was their first meeting.<\/li>\n<li>They spoke about multilateralism and human rights being challenged precisely when they were needed the most. They also discussed the importance of upholding human rights during the COVID-19 pandemic \u2013 as well as their shared priority of protecting vulnerable populations.<\/li>\n<li>The President highlighted that respect for and protection of human rights are integral to the work of the General Assembly and his priorities for the 75th session<strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>COVID-19: PRESIDENT SHARES UPDATE ON U.N. SUPPORT WITH MEMBER STATES<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/75\/2020\/10\/16\/secretary-generals-update-on-the-impact-and-consequences-of-the-covid-19-pandemic\/\">letter to Member States<\/a> on Friday evening, the President shared an update by the Secretary-General on how the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ system is supporting its Member States in coping with the health, socioeconomic, humanitarian and human rights consequences of COVID-19.<\/li>\n<li>That update was requested by the General Assembly in three resolutions during the 74th session.<\/li>\n<li>In his letter, the President wrote that this is \u201ca most important subject matter.\u201d And he expressed the hope that it would be explored further when he convenes the General Assembly\u2019s special session on COVID-19.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>ASSEMBLY\u2019S 2<sup>ND<\/sup> COMMITTEE HEARS FROM U.N. REGIONAL COMMISSIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This morning the General Assembly\u2019s Second Committee \u2013 or Economic and Financial\u00a0Committee\u00a0\u2013 is holding a virtual dialogue with the\u00a0Executive Secretaries of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ\u2019s regional commissions.<\/li>\n<li>This afternoon, the Second Committee will consider the agenda item entitled \u201cPermanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>It will hear
