Volkan Bozkir, President of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly<\/h3>\n<p><strong><span class=\"updated\">4 December 2020<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Excellencies,<\/p>\n<p>I welcome you back to the General Assembly Hall for the second day of this historic United Nations General Assembly special session, on the coronavirus disease COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, during the General debate of the 31st special session, we heard from Member States at the highest political level. Their interventions illustrated the need for a comprehensive multilateral approach to combat a disease, which does not recognize borders. Once again, I thank all speakers for their interventions and their renewed commitment to the people we serve.<\/p>\n<p>Today, in line with the request of Member States, a series of interactive dialogues will offer us an opportunity to listen to, and learn from, experts and stakeholders, who are working tirelessly to create a better world.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning with a session on the response to the COVID-19 pandemic we will delve into the health and humanitarian response. Thereafter, we will discuss the road to a COVID-19 vaccine, the key to unlocking our recovery. Finally, we will turn to deliberating how we can all \u2018recover better\u2019 as we deal with the socio-economic impact of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>We cannot neglect our duties to the people we serve at this time of crisis, when it is even more important. We must work towards lasting peace, sustainable development and the protection of human rights if we are to create the future we want.<\/p>\n<p>I look forward to a day of learning, which I trust, will bring us one step closer to ending this pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>I thank you very much.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243;
