header_6_text_shadow_vertical_length=&#8221;header_6_text_shadow_style,%91object Object%93&#8243; header_6_text_shadow_blur_strength=&#8221;header_6_text_shadow_style,%91object Object%93&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>PRESIDENT URGES MEMBER STATES TO INVEST MORE IN PREVENTING GENOCIDE<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Today is the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime.<\/li>\n<li>The Day was <a href=\"https:\/\/undocs.org\/A\/RES\/69\/323\">proclaimed by the General Assembly<\/a> in 2015.<\/li>\n<li>The President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/75\/2020\/12\/09\/72nd-anniversary-of-the-convention-on-the-prevention-and-punishment-of-the-crime-of-genocide-and-international-day-of-commemoration-and-dignity-of-the-victims-of-the-crime-of-genocide-and-of-the-preve\/\">delivered remarks<\/a> to a virtual event this morning, hosted by the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide.<\/li>\n<li>He said, \u201cGenocide is not a single event. It is a process that takes time, planning and resources. There are many warning signs along the road to genocide. To prevent this egregious crime, early detection and a prompt response are crucial.\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>In that regard, he encouraged Member States to invest more in prevention, including through promoting tolerance and respect for diversity, fighting exclusion and discrimination, countering hate speech, and protecting human rights and the rule of law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>NO COÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵTRY IMMÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵE TO CORRUPTION, PRESIDENT WARNS ON ANTI-CORRUPTION DAY<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Today is also International Anti-Corruption Day.<\/li>\n<li>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ_PGA\/status\/1336704613022625793\">video message<\/a>, the President said corruption impoverishes national economies and undermines democratic institutions and the rule of law. No country, region or community is immune.<\/li>\n<li>He noted that the General Assembly adopted the first legally binding instrument against corruption, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Convention against Corruption, in 2003.<\/li>\n<li>He strongly encouraged all Member States to implement this instrument and to participate in the General Assembly\u2019s special session on preventing and fighting corruption, which will be held next year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>SECURITY COÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵCIL REFORM TALKS TO CONSIDER REGIONAL REPRESENTATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The President has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/75\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/100\/2020\/12\/SC-reform-letter-co-chairs.pdf\">written to Member States<\/a> on Security Council reform \u2013 to transmit a letter from the Co-Chairs of this process \u2013 namely the Permanent Representatives of Poland and Qatar.<\/li>\n<li>The first informal meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiations on Security Council reform has been scheduled for 25-26 January 2021.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The meeting will be held in person, and discussions will be held on regional representation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PRESIDENT MEETS WITH HEADS OF U.N. AGENCIES &amp; NEW U.K. AMBASSADOR<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This morning the President <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ_PGA\/status\/1336707706749661193\">met virtually<\/a> with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).<\/li>\n<li>They spoke about the impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable communities, including people on the move. The President said it was essential to respond to their humanitarian needs and thanked the IOM for its leadership and concrete action to leave no one behind.<\/li>\n<li>The President is also meeting virtually right now with the Executive Director of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵAIDS \u2013 together with the Permanent Representatives of Australia and Namibia, who are the co-facilitators working on the modalities of the General Assembly\u2019s high-level meeting on HIV\/AIDS, which will be held in June 2021, and the political declaration that will come out of it.<\/li>\n<li>Then at 1:15 p.m. the President will hold
