The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, made an intervention at the 14th?Global Governance Group (3G) Ministerial Meeting, organized by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Singapore to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ.

In his statement, the PGA noted that the 3G Ministerial Meeting is an important annual event to achieve meaningful cooperation in the global governance framework and processes. Over the years, the Global Governance Group has remained active in linking the G20 with the United Nations and ensuring that the G20 listens to the views of non-members.

Highlighting the macroeconomic fragilities, social inequalities, and extreme vulnerabilities resulting from the ongoing pandemic, the President informed that his Presidency of Hope prioritizes a sustainable and resilient recovery from the pandemic, achieving the SDGs, and addressing the threat of climate change, among others. For “building back better, stronger, greener and bluer, greater, the President continued, partnerships between the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ and coalitions such as the G20 are needed and so is the support to others, particularly those in special situations such as LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS.

The President commended the G20¡¯s efforts to address the challenges posed by COVID-19 and underscored collective actions in addressing the gaps in the global pandemic preparedness and response, strengthening health systems, and digitizing our businesses and societies to make them more resilient to current and similar shocks in the future.

The President concluded by saying that his presidency is premised on hope, and he is championing all efforts to make a better future which can be achieved through cooperation, solidarity, and multilateralism, and through dialogue and acting together.
