The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E. Mr. Chandrikapersad Santokhi, President of the Republic of Suriname.?
?The PGA welcomed President Santokhi and remarked that Suriname and the Maldives were small nations confronted with similar issues, such as overcoming the global pandemic and addressing the climate crisis. President Shahid further highlighted that his message of hope aimed to uplift humanity after a strenuous and sorrowful year.
?President Santokhi underscored Suriname’s progress on environmental sustainability and called for concrete multilateral actions to tackle the existential threats facing the world. President Santokhi also supported closer engagement with civil society organizations to help fight the general hesitancy amongst communities surrounding vaccines.?
The meeting took place in the President’s office at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.?
