The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met with Ms. Rebeca?Grysnpan, Secretary-General, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵCTAD). ?
Secretary-General?Grysnpan?congratulated the President and assured him of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵTAD¡¯s full support to the Presidency of Hope and the five priorities set by the President for the 76th?Session. The President also congratulated Ms. Grynspan on being the first woman to hold the position of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵCTAD Secretary-General in the history of the organization.
The President and the Secretary-General discussed the ways in which Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵCTAD can contribute to?the?strengthening of the role of the General Assembly in addressing pressing global issues. ?
Secretary-General?Grysnpan?stated that Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵCTAD is committed to providing direct technical assistance to help countries,?in particular the?LDCs, LLDCs,?and SIDS, build the capacities to participate equitably in the global economy. She also highlighted Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵCTAD¡¯s important role in supporting developing countries in boosting technical capacity, facilitating access to trade, investment, finances, and technology for sustainable recovery.
Both the President and the Secretary-General underlined the synergies of work between the GA and Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵCTAD. Both agreed that Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵCTAD can play critical roles in supporting and complementing GA¡¯s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, mobilizing resources for sustainable recovery,?and promoting international solidarity.
The meeting took place in the President¡¯s Office at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.?
