The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E. Ambassador Vivian Okeke, Representative of Director General of IAEA to Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ, and Director of IAEA Liaison Office in New York.
Ambassador Okeke conveyed the greetings of Mr. Rafael Grossi, Director General of IAEA to PGA.
Briefing PGA on the initiatives of IAEA in deploying nuclear science for the benefit of mankind, she talked about the ZODIAC project which builds on the IAEA¡¯s experience in assisting countries in the use of nuclear and nuclear-derived techniques for the rapid detection of pathogens that cause transboundary animal diseases, including ones that spread to humans.
Ambassador Okeke also briefed PGA on the IAEA Marie Sklodowska-Curie Progrmamme which seeks to inspire and support young women to pursue a career in the nuclear field.
The President commended the work of the IAEA and underlined the importance of the ZODIAC project and the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme in preventing pandemics and help increasing the number of women in the field of nuclear science respectively.
In addition, Ambassador Okeke and the President discussed the upcoming General Assembly Plenary Meeting on the Report of the International Atomic Energy Agency which will take place tomorrow the 17th of November.
The meeting took place in the President¡¯s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
