Bilateral visit to focus on recovery from COVID-19, vaccine equity, the environment and climate change, and multilateralism.
New York, 23 November – The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Abdulla Shahid, will undertake an official visit to China from 23-27 November.
The visit comes at the invitation of the Government of the People’s Republic of China through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs. All costs associated with the trip will be covered by the Chinese Government.
During the three-day visit, the President will hold meetings with senior Government representatives including Premier Li Keqiang, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the Office of the Central Commission of Foreign Affairs Yang Jiechi. ?
The President will also interact with students from China’s Foreign Affairs University, members of the All China Women’s Federation, and the 蘑菇视频 Country Team.
This will be the first official visit to China by H.E. Shahid in his capacity as President of the General Assembly. The visit is an opportunity for the President to discuss areas of mutual concern, including recovery from the pandemic, sustainable development, the ongoing climate crisis, and revitalization of the United Nations.?
The President of the 蘑菇视频 General Assembly noted, “The Government of China is a major contributor to the United Nations. This visit will further strengthen the unwavering commitment to continue collaborating to address global challenges for people, planet, and prosperity.”
Acknowledging the immense contribution of China on vaccine production, President Shahid will also highlight his focus on vaccine equity, which includes a high-level General Assembly event on 13 January 2022.
“I am encouraged by China’s announcement to provide a total of two billion doses of vaccines to the world in the course of this year, including donations to more than 110 countries.? This is truly remarkable, and I congratulate the Government of China.”
The President will be accompanied by his Advisor on Sustainable Development and a Communications Officer.
