The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met with H.E. Mr. Wang Yi, the State Councilor and Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, during his visit to China.

The State Councilor and Foreign Minister Mr. Wang Yi stressed the importance of upholding multilateralism and called for global solidarity, with a focus on controlling and preventing COVID19 pandemic, accelerating sustainable recovery, and addressing global challenges including climate change, food security etc. He pledged the continued and firm support of China to the Office of the President of the General Assembly, including the specific priorities identified in the Five Rays of Hope by the President of the 76th session. Mr. Wang also expressed his support to the high-level event on equal access to COVID19 vaccines to be convened?on 13 January 2022.?

The President extended his appreciation for China’s support to the United Nations and his Presidency, in particular the financial contribution to the Trust Fund for the Office of the PGA and PGA’s Fellowship for HOPE. The President stressed the importance of global solidarity, in the fight against the COVID19 pandemic, in achieving equitable access to vaccines, on taking urgent action on climate change, and in the implementation of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He encouraged China to implement the Global Development Initiative and Global Vaccine Cooperation Action Initiative both launched President Xi Jinping, in cooperation with international partners including 蘑菇视频 system to facilitate global recovery and sustainable development, especially in the LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS.

Both sides also discussed other relevant topics, such as poverty eradication, biodiversity, security council reform, empowering youth, and gender equality.
