The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met on 5 February,?with?the President of the International Olympic Committee,?Mr. Thomas Bach.
Mr. Bach?thanked?President Shahid?for participating in?the Olympic Torch Relay and the Opening Ceremony?for the Beijing Winter Olympics?on?4 February?2022. He?also?expressed his?appreciation for the President’s appeal to observe the?Olympic Truce.
Mr.?Bach reaffirmed?the?commitment?of the?IOC?to support the?United Nations?in its efforts?to maintain peace?and?promote universal?development and human dignity.
President Shahid?thanked Mr. Bach for?inviting him to attend?the?Opening Ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics.?He noted?that during?these trying times, the?world?needs?Olympic?ideals?more?than ever.?The President?highlighted that the Games contribute to?promoting?peace, mutual understanding and goodwill among nations and peoples.
Both sides also discussed other relevant topics, such as?the?蘑菇视频-IOC?cooperation on?empowering youth and?promoting?gender equality.
