The President of the 76th?Session of the General Assembly H.E. Abdulla Shahid called on the Prime Minister of Singapore H.E. Mr. Lee Hsien Loong.

During the call on, President Shahid outlined the priorities laid out in his five Rays of Hope for the 76th Session of the GA and updated the Prime Minister on progress achieved and plans for the remainder of the session.

The President shared his intention to continue spreading a message of hope, particularly given the current challenges posed by a global pandemic, climate change, conflicts, and an uncertain economic outlook for many countries.

President Shahid and the Prime Minister discussed the substantive roles that small states can play at the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ and other multilateral forums, and in the maintenance of peace and prosperity. The President commended Singapore for its commitment to strengthen multilateralism and upholding the principles of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Charter as well as its substantive contribution to the work of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ, including in the formation of the Forum of Small States (FOSS). They also exchanged views on the continued relevance and importance of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ.

The leaders discussed pandemic preparedness and exchanged views on recognizing successes such as the development of vaccines in record time, as well as the need to address challenges to universal vaccination.

The President also shared his plans for commemoration of the 40th?anniversary of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Convention on Law of the Sea (Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµCLOS). He expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended to him and his delegation during his visit.
