Dear Scientists,

I would like to thank Ambassador Amal for steering and guiding our discussions throughout the course of today.

I also extend my profound appreciation to all the scientists who have inspired us with their stories today. You are examples, role models, and mentors for many aspiring girls – and boys – in science.

Thank you for sharing your views and thoughts on the role of science, and in particular women in science, in building sustainable water solutions.

This International Day of Women and Girls in Science availed us the opportunity to reach out to the next generation of scientists, to empower aspiring girls and youth as agents of change, in the creation of sustainable development solutions.

The diversity and inclusion of almost 30 scientists, from different corners of the globe and various fields in science, is a testament of RASIT’s commitment on gender equality.?

RASIT has truly ‘walked the talk’ for gender equality and I congratulate Her Royal Highness, Dr. Nisreen El-Hashemite for her exemplary achievements on this front.

It is platforms such as these that provide the means to share lessons, experiences, and strategies to pave the way forward. This allows us the chance to empower women and girls in science – and helps amplify their voices on matters that shape their future.

Today, we helped deliver on equality by understanding where we can synergize complementary roles and efforts, and where we need to bridge gaps.

In particular we heard:

  • How women in science can contribute towards the achievement of sustainable water solutions around SDG6.
  • How we need to build capacity for sustainable development solutions.
  • The importance of science education, as well as the necessity of braille in leaving no one behind.
  • The recognition for women in science entrepreneurs and the need for open access.
  • And of course, supporting and recognizing the Voice of Girls in Science for SDGs International Platform.

The rich and substantive exchanges today will help guide our path for gender equality, including gender-equal work and learning spaces.?

I congratulate each and every one of you for the success of today’s event.

Let us continue to work together to secure an equal, diverse, and inclusive recovery on global water issues.

And just as water unites us, let us also unite our efforts to support women and girls in science.
