Inter-Parliamentary Union
In the General Assembly today¡
The President of the General Assembly and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) are holding the 2022 Parliamentary Hearing.
The theme is ¡°Building political support and inclusive responses to sustainable recovery¡±.
This is the largest in-person gathering at the United Nations since the September High-Level Week¡ and it¡¯s the first time that it is being held in the General Assembly Hall.
Around 200 Members of Parliament, Speakers, advisers, and related officials from 65 Member States are taking part.
President Abdulla Shahid told the opening this morning that ¡°Parliaments are the platform through which Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ resolutions can be turned into national legislation. And national parliaments can be the mechanism through which local concerns can be conveyed to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ and deliberated by the international community.¡±
After today¡¯s opening, President Shahid held a bilateral meeting with the IPU President, Mr. Duarte Pacheco.
He is due to meet later today with Shakhwan Abdullah Ahmed, Deputy Speaker of Iraqi Council of Representatives.

Also today, President Shahid will meet with the High Representative of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Alliance of Civilizations, Miguel Angel Moratinos.
They will discuss issues related to the Presidency of Hope, and also the ongoing informal thematic consultations on the Our Common Agenda report.
