The President of the 76^th?Session of the General Assembly H.E. Abdulla Shahid met today with the President of the Human Rights Council, Ambassador Federico Villegas.

President Shahid congratulated the President of the Human Rights Council on his election. He also highlighted the progress achieved in delivering on the priorities outlined for the Seventy-Sixth Session as well as briefed on the upcoming events for the remainder of the session.

The President of the Human Rights Council briefed the President on the outcome of the 49^th?session of the Human Rights Council, held from 28 February to 1?April 2022 and commended the ability of the General Assembly and the Human Rights Council to act on crisis situations.

Both sides exchanged views on issues related to the human rights dimension of climate change, gender equality, and importance of youth engagement in decision-making and multilateralism.

The meeting took place in the President¡¯s office at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
