The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla SHAHID, met today with H.E. H.E. Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al THANI, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations.
Ambassador Al Thani thanked the President for his leadership that ensured the smooth adoption by consensus of the GA resolution “Welcoming the 2022 FIFA World Cup Hosted by Qatar” on?8 April 2022.
The Ambassador also presented the President with the official World Cup Football – “Al Rihla” (meaning “Journey” in Arabic).
President Shahid applauded Qatar on being the first country in the Middle East to host such an important event and wished the people and the government of Qatar all success for the World Cup 2022 in Doha.
The meeting took place in the Office of the President of the General Assembly at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
