The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with Mr. Jean Todt, United Nations Secretary-General¡¯s Special Envoy for Road Safety, and Ms. Olga Algayerova, Executive Secretary of United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵECE).
The President, the Special Envoy and the Executive Secretary of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ ECE discussed the preparations for the United Nations High-level Meeting on Global Road Safety to be convened?on 30 June?and?1 July?this year.
The President highlighted the importance of road safety and deplored the number of lives lost and economic suffering caused by road accidents.
He mentioned that the preparations for the High-Level Meeting will proceed?as per mandate and?under the guidance of Member States.
Mr. Todt and Ms. Algayerova reaffirmed their support to PGA¡¯s efforts to ensure a smooth Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ process to promote global road safety.
The meeting took place in PGA¡¯s office.
